Whistle Stop Challenge FAQs/Race Policies

Are refunds available if I can’t make it?

No. All registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Is this a walker-friendly event?

Yes! Walkers are welcome. Be sure to register as a walker. Awards are given in walker categories separate from the runners. There will be a 3 hour time limit on the 15K so walkers must be able to maintain a 19:35 pace per mile.

Can I run virtually?

Yes! We realize not everyone feels safe returning to in-person races yet. That's ok! You're welcome to participate virtually. There's an increase charge for virtual registration to help cover shipping.

Do I have to run all 3 races?

No. The Whistle Stop Challenge is designed to allow you to run 1 or 2 events, or all 3. There is a significant discount offered to those who run the entire series. Also, each finisher medal is a different train car, so you'll be able to have a full train if you run all 3! When you register, be sure to carefully select which race or combination of races you would like to register for!

Is there a limit on how many runners can participate in the Whistle Stop Challenge?

The Whistle Stop Challenge is not capped at this time. We will cap the race at a later date once orders for merchandise are placed. We will notify the public through our website and Facebook once we are getting close to selling out.

Who will benefit from Whistle Stop Challenge?

Southwest Mississippi Children's Advocacy Center is our official charity partner. When you register you will have the opportunity to make a donation to this organization if you choose to. In addition, Defining Moment Events will make a donation to Southwest Mississippi Children's Advocacy Center with a portion of the proceeds from the Whistle Stop Challenge. Registration fees also cover merchandise items such as t-shirts, medals, race bibs, and race refreshments, as well as all other expenses involved in an event of this size.

Does the registration include a t-shirt?

Yes! All Whistle Stop Challenge participants will receive a t-shirt with their registration. There is only one event t-shirt, so whether you run 1 race or all 3 you'll get one t-shirt.

Can I still get my t-shirt if I am unable to make it?

If you are unable to make it you can change your registration to Virtual Participant for a $8 charge for shipping. If someone you know is able to pick it up for you at the event we will allow them to do so. You must let us know ahead of time who will be picking it up for you. We will not mail t-shirts without shipping payment.

Do I have to stay for the awards presentation to get my award?

Yes. We will not mail awards. No exceptions.

Are the race courses challenging?

Each course will vary with the amount of hills. Southwest MS is neither the Coast or the Delta, so expect a few rolling hills, but nothing too intense. All courses are mostly flat, but you will have a few challenging areas along the way.

Will results and times be posted?

Yes. Southern Race Timing will be our timer and results will be posted on the Whistle Stop Challenge website under the Post Race menu tab.

Are strollers allowed?

Yes strollers are welcome, but please be mindful of other runners and use caution. Runners/Walkers pushing strollers will be asked to start towards the back.

Are pets allowed?

No. Due to safety concerns of other runners, we do not allow pets.

Can I wear headphones during the race?

Yes. Just be cautious and aware of other runners, and be sure you can hear instructions and are able to hear any oncoming traffic.

How can I, or my business, become a sponsor of the Whistle Stop Challenge?

We would love to talk to you about how you can partner with us as a sponsor. Please email us at definingmomentevents@gmail.com

Race Policies
Refund Policy
There are no refunds for this event. All payments are final.
Whistle Stop Challenge is a rain or shine event. In the event of inclement weather we may adjust the start time in order to avoid cancellation, but we will not change the date of the event. Any changes to the schedule will be communicated through the Defining Moment Events Facebook page and via email. The event would only be cancelled if weather conditions were determined too dangerous and risked the safety of participants and volunteers.

Race Waiver

All participants and volunteers must sign a race waiver. Any participants under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. All online registrations include the race waiver.

Discounts/Sales/Coupon Codes/Special Offers

Occasionally at various times prior to the race, Defining Moment Events LLC may offer promotional discounts and sales as a part of the marketing of the event. All offers and discounts are intended for future participants and new registrations. Defining Moment Events LLC is under no obligation to provide a retroactive credit on existing registrations.

Walkers must walk! Participants who are registered as a walker and are competing in the walking category must walk at all times. Walkers are not permitted to run at any time, including the final stretch to the finish line. Runners may walk if needed, but walkers can never run. Speed walking is fine, but both feet can never leave the ground at the same time. Walkers who are caught running will be moved to the running category and will not qualify for winning in the walking category.

All volunteers are expected to be present at their assigned post for the duration of the event. Volunteers are not allowed to participate in the race. All volunteers must sign a race waiver.

All participants are expected to adhere to all signs and safety instructions given. The course will not be closed to traffic with the exception of certain spots. Police officers, firefighters, and volunteers will be available on the route to help monitor traffic. All participants are expected to follow any instructions given by any law enforcement or volunteer traffic control personnel.

Any participant who conducts himself or herself in an unsportsmanlike manner or who is offensive in action or language to event officials, other participants, or volunteers may be disqualified and asked to leave the event.

Prohibited Items

Any weapons such as guns, knives, sharp objects, or any items that could cause harm to other participants are not allowed.

Dress Code

We simply ask that you dress in a manor that is appropriate for a family-friendly event. Running shirtless is discouraged. Defining Moment Events reserves the right to remove any participant that is dressed distastefully.

Bib Numbers/Timing

Bib numbers must be visible at all times. Bibs must be worn on the front of the body. Race timing is provided by Southern Race Timing LLC. Awards are given based on official time results.

Pets are not allowed at this event. Participants are not permitted to run or walk with animals.

Runner Courtesy

Please be considerate and respectful of other participants at all times. Please remember these common running courtesies while on the course:

  • When running in groups, try not to be more than 3-4 abreast so that others can pass as needed.

  • Refrain from spitting or blowing your nose in a way that could hit other runners.

  • Use phrases like "on your right" or "on your left" when passing other runners.

  • Move over for faster runners to pass.

  • Do not stop abruptly to tie your shoe or to drink water.

  • BE KIND...It's always worth it.
